Survival Guide

First tip for starting Alfriston College. Please do not try to be a try hard. People will judge you so be yourself hang out with the same people because they already know who you are so you don't need to change. If you are new try to hang out with different people to see which crowd you fit in. Do not put heaps of make-up on and don't wear your skirt high. It makes you look bad so don't do it. Guys don't be stupid and a smart mouth to the girls otherwise they are going to beat you up.

Don't annoy teachers. If you get them angry they are allowed to keep you in for 20min after school and put you on kmar. Get all work done so you don't need to be kept in. Be organised with stationary and books so you can get the work done. If you come late to class make up a good excuse or be honest or be a teachers pet so they can let you off.

Don't be afraid to try new things. Try out for music, dance, sport teams, debating club, chess club or other stuff, there are different things for you. Express, your talents to friends and teachers you could be known as the sporty girl, the ballet girl, the chess boy or the super debater. So don't be afraid to try different things it could help you get somewhere!

Letter

15th November 2011

Dear Mrs Hartstone

It has been an exciting and fun year for me. As a year 9 and being new to Alfriston College, being in your tutor class has certainly made me feel right at home. You have been there for me to give me advice and have encouraged me through out the year to succeed in all my classes. If it weren't for your high spirits I don't know what my high school life would be without you.

Memories I will carry and treasure with me through my life of my first year at high school, you will certainly be there in those memories for the best tutor teacher at Alfriston College. For example on the first day of high school this year, Ashleigh and I were jumping up and down excited to be in the same tutor class and you were just laughing at us and also on shared lunches you would always bring your yummy muffins!

But as my first year of high school ends I have been welcomed and loved by you and our tutor class. I am eternally grateful as you have accepted me into your class just like I was one of your own. Thank you so much and good luck having me around for the next four years!

Sincerely Tiara

P.S. Miss Kelly I didn't put my address and last name due to safety reasons, thanks.

Celebrating Guy Fawkes!!!!

Celebrating Guy Fawkes is part of what our family really love to do. Well it's mainly my Dad and I that can stand the loud noises so the rest of our family stay inside and watch from the window at a safe distance.
The origins of Guy Fawkes stem from events that took place in 1605 when a group of 12 men attempted to blow up Britain's House of Parliament. This event was to become known as the Gunpowder Plot and a man named Guy Fawkes was behind it.The Gunpowder Plot conspirators thought violent action was needed to end the persecution of the English Catholics. They intended to kill the King and others who were responsible for the persecution by blowing up the Houses of Parliament. However as the plan was developing some of the conspirators involved began to have doubts and one sent a letter of warning out. The letter reached the King which led to authorities storming the House of Parliament in the early hours of November 5.It was here that Guy Fawkes was caught with 36 barrels of gunpowder. He was sent to trial and to show that treason would not be tolerated he was sentenced to death by the most horrible form of execution - he was to be hung, drawn and quartered. On November 5 Londoners were encouraged to light bonfires to celebrate the King's escape from assassination. The tradition was continued to emphasise the seriousness of treason. The tradition still continues to this day and bonfires are lit on the same night each year and an effigy of Fawkes is often burnt. People all over the world buy fireworks and watch the pretty explosions in the air. My Dad and I buy a big boom box and light about 2 thirds of the box with our neighbour and we have being doing this since I can remember. The one third left we light up at our batch with our extended family on New Years Day. Anyone can celebrate this awesome night and even if it's just for fun you're sure you are going to get something good out of it every single time.

What I would Change at my School

The first thing I would do is make a special garden dedicated to our school. It would have fountains and flowers, trees, fruits and vegetables. This would be placed beside the basketball court. This is mainly for students with special needs and I think it would be very therapeutic to the students and would help students and teachers. I also think it is a great place for students in break time to bond and could be a great place to study in the sunshine rather being stuck inside.

The second thing I would do is build a rugby field behind the astro-turf. If I was to build the garden beside the basketball court the people who played rugby there would have no where to go. I think building a proper field for this sport is far more suitable than playing on an area that is not flat and has hills. It has boulders and is a risk for students getting serious injuries. Building a proper rugby field can get more students involved with the sport and is an area where the school's team can practice. Also the school could make profit if other schools wanted to come and practice on the field as-well.

The third thing I would do is build two long pools on the field behind Auaha. This is a great thing to do, it gives us reasons for more inter-whanau sports and  whanau can earn  more points. Having a pool would benifit students because we could have swimming lessons during P.E, and this could help prevent people from drowning.  Did you know drowning is the third highest cause of unintentional death in New Zealand? This is bad and can be prevented from, teaching students to swim and giving them an education of the dangers at the beach can help prevent students from drowning.  It's also a fun way to learn which means learners could possibly stay on task and get work done. It could possibly effect their self-esteem in a good way and can give them a brighter future in their learning.

My Holiday to Bali!!!!!!!!!!

My holiday to Bali was very fun and it was a great way for my family and I to just kick back and relax. Our hotel were great host and had two pools and at the back it lead to Kuta beach. The hotel my dad picked was in a great location, on the right side of the hotel were markets, on the left side of the hotel was a shopping mall, in front of the hotel was a water-park and behind it was Kuta beach. The first night we were there my Dad and younger sister experienced an earthquake. It was very frightening but it was also really cool. Every single day we were there we spent swimming in the pool or the beach. The water-park was very thrilling and was a great day out for the family. The mall was a great place to get cute clothes and souvenirs for our friends and family. Overall it was a very relaxing holiday and is a great place for the family or couples as there are lots of  exciting things to do. My family's favourite part was ending our holiday sitting on the beach watching the famous Kuta beach sunset.

Review 2: ipad 2

The ipad is a recently new device it has more features to it such as photoshop, youtube, facetime and much more. Downloading books are a new thing and is a great reason to sit on the couch with a cup of tea. I think the ipad is mainly a use of entertainment and not really a useful tool at work. The internet is fast and can go on most websites. But the technology has travelled fast around New Zealand and I highly reccomend it for someone looking for a fun way to spend their free time.

Internet

The internet is a place where people do many things, such as entertainment, work, socializing and much more. But some people don't really know the dangers of the internet and put a lot of information about themselves on it. I’ll be writing about how the dangers of the internet have effected people and how people can access your information off Facebook. I agree that the internet is a dangerous place but you can make it safer if you put security systems on your websites, but you should always still watch your back…….

Did you know that there are more than 800 million active users are on Facebook, so anyone can look at your photos and look at your information. People have had serious incidents to do with others looking on their Facebook page and finding out what school they go to just because they looked up some photos of innocent girls in their school uniform. There are crazy people out there and they can easily find you. But the plus side is  you can have security systems which can help your time on the internet a lot more safer and also you should always add people you know and have met!

A story on the news around last year reported of a girl 13yrs being murdered. It started after just accepting someone she completing  didn't know. He sweet talked her and soon after she fell madly in love with someone 9yrs older than her. He asked her to come meet her and she quickly agreed. She told him her address and he picked her up for a day out at the beach the next day. They went to the beach and everything seemed fine until they found her dead body the next day. Her mother had know idea her daughter had fallen in love with a killer. Parents should regularly check up on their kids and their profile pages it could make them really mad but it's better than finding them dead.

Yes, I would say that the internet is a dangerous place but the only thing you can do is make it safer for yourself. Put security systems up, make sure you add people you know and not random strangers. Bad things happen because of the internet and it can be avoided. Doing basic things like only sharing things to people you know can really help in the long-run.

Review 1: Australia vs. Ireland Rugby Game (I actually went!!!!)

The game was very enjoyable. The atmosphere was full of fun, and suspense was in the air as the two teams came on to the field. From where I was sitting I had a great view of the dancing dots of bright green everywhere, it seemed Ireland was confident they would win! I knew who I was cheering for, Funnily enough, my high pitched screams for Ireland annoyed the aussies infront of us. I was quite surprised to see one man next to us dressed up as a leprechaun, he said "It doesn't matter if we win or lose we're just here to party!" I laughed, Bloody Irish.  In the end Ireland won, and overall the game was thrilling and fun. congratz to Ireland for your win and I would defifinitly go to a another game again.
